But this time the Republicans sense an opportunity to cut into that advantage, at least with moderate and independent Catholics, because of two recent developments: President Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage and the standoff between the Obama administration and Catholic bishops over the requirement that Catholic hospitals and schools must provide coverage for birth control in their employee health insurance plans. The issue has become the centerpiece of a campaign by the bishops to defend what they consider a matter of religious liberty.

Most moderate & independent baptised Chrisitans practicing Catholicism accept--President's acceptance of same-sex marriage and HHS mandate Catholic hospital and schools must provide coverage for birth control in their emplouyee health insurance plans.
Even if moderate and independent Catholics do not understand it---President Obama's endorsement of same-sex marriage based on several reasons---they accept it due to following reasons; <Bill Huff, life long practicing Catholic,  8/26/12>
(1) "all baptised Christians practicing Catholicism accepts human beings whose devotion and love to human beings of the same sex with those human beings whose devotion and love to human beings of opposite sex since they all are created by their SUPREME BEING---God ;
(2) all judgements of all human beings created by our SUPREME BEING are only subject  to SUPREME BEING---not earthly human beings' judgements';
(3) all baptised Christians during baptism clearly receive a mandate from Christ to care for the less fortunate---which includes same-sex married couples , widows and other needy human beings needing physical, mental and loving care.

Regarding HHS mandate, independent and moderate Catholics realize after Affordable Health Care Act has been passed and judged constitutional by United States Supreme Court that this legislation is good for America's less fortunate and parts offensive to Catholic church teachings applying to Catholic hospitals and school being required to provide coverage for birth control in their employee health insurance plans is only a matter of time before it is eliminated through Congress.  Therefore, their Catholic vote will not "hinge" on this one issue, even though Catholic Bishops personally framed their dislike as decreased religioius freedom.  Solvency of America is in best interests of common good---not electing a president and his party bent on destroying 100 years of "people polices for less fortunate"!

It's past time America's Bishops recognize when they are being used for political purposes by American political party just so they will achieve victory at the polls!  Remember! Bishops who're leaders of the Catholic Church are highly educated and trained religious professionals who're continously being duped by    political operatives for winning presidential elections during decade of 2000!
